What does it take to pass your Driving Test?
Skill? Yes absolutely!
Practise? Yes Absolutely!
Driving Lessons? Yes absolutely, providing they are with a Professional Instructor.
Motivation ? Yes Absolutely!
Here Lies the Key.
You must be serious about what is necessary to pass the Driving Test. Unless you understand what is required you are wasting your time! So many Driving Test Candidates fall foul of so many situations on their Driving Tests and then wonder why they have been unsuccessful.
If you don't know what is required;
How on earth are you going to be successful?
Where do you find out what is required? Well you go to an expert AKA Professional. An expert Instructor is going to know exactly what is required for a Candidate to pass their Driving Test, no stones unturned!
Listening to friends is fine up to a point if they have just taken their Test but Mums and Dads will not have the latest facts and details of how Tests are conducted and what examiners are looking for. Changes have been taking place in Driving Test standards for several years now with Directives from the EU driving these changes and compliance by each country is mandatory by the specified date.
With the waiting list for a Driving Test probably the longest in Europe it is useful to apply for your Test as soon as you commence Driving Lessons and get up to a high basic standard as soon as possible .Then when your expected Test Date is approximately two months away you should then commence detailed preparation with your Instructor. Fine tuning of skills and building up your local knowledge of the location of your Driving Test will add to your chances of passing first time.
Knowing what hazards are currently proving to be a serious obstacle in any given area is an absolute must!
These include:- new Road layouts; new Traffic lights; cycle lanes; Bus Lanes; Roundabouts; Building sites; Housing Developments; Commercial Construction; New Schools; Expansion of Existing Schools; Temporary Road works; Temporary Traffic Lights and so on. This is quite an extensive list of everyday hazards; any one of which handled badly can lead to a disqualification on your Driving Test.
The lead up to the Driving Test is not the time to be learning basic skills. These should be well honed by this stage. If you are still trying to master basic skills just a couple weeks from your Driving Test you won't have time to devote to the in depth fine tuning of local knowledge assimilation. Knowing every detail of local activities will give you an edge over candidates who are blissfully unaware of comings and goings and will make a difference (a) to your confidence and (b) to your rapport with the Examiner.
The debate about Driving for Life versus learning to pass the Driving Test will no doubt rage on for years to come. Learning Basic skills from the beginning and progressing to more advanced techniques as your competence improves will give you a more than fair chance of passing the Driving Test first time. If you focus on the Driving Test before mastering the basics and gaining a good level of skill, then most of this effort will be wasted since it is lack of basic skills and understanding of today's driving environment that leads to Driving Test failure.
